oh, these little shoes. yes..they are oh, so precious and darling! BUT the story behind them litterarily drives me to tears and makes them THAT much more special! There wasn't a dry eye in the room as i opened this gift and read the letter outloud that came with it! This is what it said:Melissa -
"I hope you like these little shoes. I wanted to make something special for little Sienna as she is such a special little blessing. And i knew shortly after making that decision exactly what fabric to use to make them. I bought this fabric in Florence when i was there studying textile design. My screen printing assignment was to come up a print fabric inspired by Italy. My inspiration came from the countless ways Christ was depicted in the art that i saw everywhere there!
The blue diamond design came from the Last Supper scene. The hard brown cross with the crown of thorns represents Christ in human form, him on the cross, his death and sacrifice.
the leafs in the cross pattern represents Christ in his resurrected form. The life that can be found in Him.
Melissa, I have had this fabric for...oh gosh..the math hurts... 14 years - and i have never found anything worth cutting it for. But, your faith, Halle's legacy, and Sienna's origin compelled me. The shoes are lined with the print of the hard cross....but the life-giving cross i put on the soles under her feet. May she always be grounded in Faith and the love of Christ. And may you continue to be blessed by her life and the gift of God that she is to you."

(susan is a friend of my best friend Heidi in Michigan. i have met her once or twice. i'm soo soo overwhlemed and humbled by this amazing hand-made heart-felt gift. i really do not have the words...just tears. Even now as i type the tears roll down my face. they are almost too precious and too meaningful to wear, but yet, they will grace my daughters feet one day. the beauty...physical...and spiritual astounds me.)

ReplyDeleteI am also moved to tears reading this post and hers about the shoes. Such a wonderful gift for miss Sienna! Whom I am anxiously awaiting photos of when she makes her appearance. I know that the moment you go into labor you will have so many people praying for this little girl. I think it would be adorable to see lil miss in her new shoes at birth and watch her grow into them!
